Hamburg Hotels and Hamburg Accommodation
(Hamburg, Germany, DE)
Whilst the standard of accommodation throughout the city of Hamburg is general high, so are the prices.
Hotels in Hamburg are rarely cheap, although if you book ahead at a quiet time, it is possible that you will find a number of genuine bargains.
Although hotels in Hamburg are not particularly cheap, most prices include breakfast and the best are usually either within the city centre or nearby. Due to the flood of visitors during the summer months, sensible travellers are those who book ahead between June and September.
This is particularly necessary if you are planning to stay at budget accommodation within Hamburg, such as the modern and centrally located DJH Auf dem Stintfang Hostel, a popular choice. Located above the Landungsbrucken, this hotel is known for its views across both the harbour and the River Elbe.
Hamburg Hotels and Accommodation: Where to Stay - Hamburg, Germany, DE
Guesthouses in the city of Hamburg are another popular lodging option for those wishing to stay on a budget, as are local pensions (cheap boarding houses). A number of cheap hotels can be found on the eastern side of the Hauptbahnhof (main train station), around the St. Georg area. However, do be sure to stick to the main hotels listed within the official hotel brochure available at the Hamburg tourist office, since the 'Stundenhotels' are rather undesirable and regularly frequented by prostitutes.
Lovers of the great outdoors will be pleased to find several excellent camping sites on the very outskirts of Hamburg. Located in the suburban district of Stellingen, the Camping Buchholz can be found along the Kieler Strasse and is open throughout the year, being a cheap alternative to hotels within the city centre.
Plenty of mid-range lodging is to be found around the St. Georg neighbourhood, as well as the district of Neustadt (New Town). The New Town area of Hamburg is full of hotels, many of which are clustered around the Colonnaden pedestrian precinct, the elegant Esplanade, and close to the shops in the Gänsemarkt region. Also within New Town Hamburg, further accommodation options lie around Drehbahn - in the very heart of the city, Neuer Jungfernstieg - next to Lake Alster, and Holstenwall - close to both the Reeperbahn and also the trade fair centre.
Further accommodation choices and hotels in Hamburg stand close to the harbour area, throughout the Schanzenviertel and St. Pauli districts, within the Universitatsviertal area (University Quarter), around the Harvestehude and Rotherbaum neighbourhoods, and outside of the city itself.
